Capesize
A fairly active start after the UK and South Korean return to work with rates, particularly in the east, firming. Rates talked/fixed to be over $8.00 on the key West Australia/Qingdao run but little fixed on voyage basis and most concluded on timecharter. Owners/operators appeared to be now talking $21,000 to $22,000 daily. Brazil activity was thin and rates reported were unexciting but further north in the Atlantic improved but again little detail emerged. Period business at the end of last week included SwissMarine booking the Seamate (177,775 2010) retroactive to Singapore 23 April for 9 to 11 months trading at $19,250 daily while the same charterer last week booked the Houston (177,729 2009) from Changzhou 9 May for the same period at $19,000 daily.
Asia
There were rumours of rates on the West Australian/China run fixed over $8.00 but these rumours may have been connected to voyage equivalents to timecharter rates. Oldendorff reportedly took the Lowlands Sunrise (181,448 2011) CCL relet open Zhoushan prompt fixed for a West Australian round at $21,750 daily and Cara took the RWE relet Herun China (180,000 2017) from Jiangyin spot at for a West Australian round at the same rate. The Louis Dreyfus relet Cape Eagle (181,529 2012) open CJK was said on subjects for similar business at $21,000 daily. The CCL relet Golden Amreen (179,337 2015) which sailed Krishnapatnam 1 May fixed and failed for a trip via Richards Bay to India with Jaldhi at $21,000 daily.
Atlantic
The Ekaterini (2012 173,555) eta 26 May Tubarao fixed to Pacific Bulk on this run to Qingdao at $18.00 but this was not confirmed.
Further north, the Cosco relet Cape Alexandros (181458 2011) open Cape Passero 7 May agreed $21,250 daily with Oldendorff for a transatlantic round with Skaw+Cape Passero redelivery.

Panamax
After a long weekend here in the UK, some of the fixtures reported were concluded last week. The newbuilding Armonia A (82,084 2018) ex-yard Jiangsu YZJ was said to have fixed for 1 option 1 year with Cofco at $13,500 with the optional year at $14,500 whilst another newbuilding the Ekaterini (82,000 2018) ex-yard Jiangsu new Yangtzejiang 7 May was reported as fixed for around 2 years at $13,000 with Klaveness but this was concluded last week. The Stormharbour (76,583 2009) prompt in Japan agreed 4 to 7 months with Oldendorff at $13,000 and Deyesion reportedly fixed the Seacon 9 (74,844 2012) Beihai 18-20 May for short period, but further details failed to emerge.
Atlantic
The South Atlantic remained very busy from east coast South America but further north the Nordic Odin (76,180 2015) was said to be on subjects for a Port Cartier to Hamburg stem for 18-27 May dates at $7.40 with Salzgitter and Cargill was linked to the Daelim relet Madeleine (76,561 2006) open Mississippi River 12-14 May for transatlantic grains. The Anthos (75,120 2001) Recalada 14-18 May was earlier it was rumoured the Alkimos Heracles (81,922 2014) spot Gibraltar was on subjects for a trip via the Amazon to Iran with Cargill, but brokers said the vessel had been marketed again. The NBA Van Dyck (95,527 2014) eta Norfolk 11 May supposedly fixed on voyage basis from the US east coast to east coast India at around $29.00 with XCoal and the Saita I (81,922 2014) fixed basis split rates from South Brazil 21-22 May at $15,350 plus $535,000 ballast bonus, option north Brazil delivery at $15,500 plus $550,000 ballast bonus with DHL. The Bahia Blanca (81,818 2017) eta east coast South America 20-30 May was reported to BG Shipping for a trip Singapore-Japan at $15,100 plus $510,000 ballast bonus but a source said this was incorrect, and the FH Fang Cheng (81,458 2015) eta 10 May fixed to Solebay for a trip Singapore-Japan at $14,900 plus $490,000 ballast bonus. The Kynouria (81,354 2012) fixed to ECTP with an eta 18-22 May at $14,800 plus $480,000 ballast bonus for a trip Singapore-Japan whilst the Mykonos (81,386 2013) eta 25-30 May also fixed to the east at $14,500 plus $450,000 ballast bonus. Cofco took the SBI Sousta (81,175 2016) also eta end May at $14,900 plus $490,000 ballast bonus and the Feng Huang Feng (75,396 2012) agreed $14,100 plus $410,000 ballast bonus with an eta east coast South America of 21 May. The very prompt Brahms (75,200 2011) eta 7-8 May fixed last week to Cargill for a trip Singapore-Japan at $14,000 plus $400,000 ballast bonus and Crystal Sea covered its 60,000/10 stem Santos to China for 20-30 May at either $32.00 per mt or $32.25 per mt.
Asia
There appeared to be significant rumoured trades in the East, without much detail emerging. The Navios Prosperity (82,535 2007) prompt Jingtang went on subjects for a NoPac round in the $11,000s, the Double Fantasy (95,691 2011) Qingdao 9-11 May reportedly fixed an Australian round and the Alpha Afovos (74,428 2001) open South Korea 9 May fixed a trip to China at $10,850 with Taurus. The Yasa Pioneer 82,849 2006) Butterworth 9-12 May was on subjects similarly the Shao Shan 1 (74,009 1997) Fangcheng 12-18 May was on subjects with Kaishun and the Anglo Red (81,712 2013) Hong Kong 10 May also fixed undisclosed business. The Tai Keystone (84,000 2017) prompt Yantai fixed on subjects as did the Genco Vigour (73,941 1999) CJK 7-9 May and Norden took the RB Lisa (81,364 2016) China 9 May last week for a trip via NoPac to India at $12,250.

Supramax
A mixed bag today with routes in the Asian sector still making positive ground whilst the majority of Atlantic routes saw negative movements. Some brokers said that there was little fresh activity from both the US Gulf and east South American markets which also saw a build up of tonnage in both areas. A touch more activity surfaced and a Dolphin 57 delivery Xiamen went on subjects for 3 to 5 months redelivery worldwide at $15,000.

Atlantic
A 61,000 delivery Damietta was fixed on subjects for a trip from Egypt to India with fertilisers at $13,000 while the SBI Tango (61,192 2015) open Bourgas 9-10 May was on subjects but no further details surfaced. The Seabee (62,653 2015) was reported fixed basis delivery east Mediterranean for a trip to the US Gulf with bulk fertilisers at $7,700. The Sinica Graeca (63,270 2015) giving eta Recalada 14 May was fixed for a trip to the Mediterranean but no more details were known.

Asia
A 53,000 delivery Singapore was said on subjects for 2 to 3 laden legs redelivery worldwide at $11,500. The Albion Bay (58,755 2011) open Xinsha failed on subjects for a nickel ore trip from the Philippines to China at $12,750. A 56,800 open Lanshan was on subjects for a nickel ore run in the mid $11,000s but no more details were known. A 56,000 open Visakhapatnam was fixed on subjects for a trip from Indonesia to India at $10,000.

Handysize
The majority of routes lost ground today with the only exception from east coast South America which saw a little resistance.
Atlantic
From the south Atlantic, Suisse Atlantique was linked to a 38,000 on subjects at around $13,000 for a trip from Brazil to Morocco but no more details were known. The Riva (38,664 2016) was reported fixed basis delivery US Gulf for a trip Yuhzny at approximately $11,000. From last week, the Stargate (28,221 2011) was linked to Ultrabulk for a trip from the US Gulf to the Persian Gulf in the mid $12,000s. Elsewhere, a 31,000 open in the Mediterranean was fixed basis delivery El Dekheila for a trip to Haiti with bagged cement at $10,000. The Alma Suria (29,077 2012) open Continent was fixed basis delivery passing Skaw for a trip with scrap via Denmark to the east Mediterranean at $11,000.
Asia
A slow day from here with little being discussed. A 33,000 was rumoured fixed for a trip from north Asia to south Asia at around $10,000.
